Once again, it's Works-for-Me Wednesday over at Rocks In My Dryer. My tip for the day is for what to do when a recipe calls for buttermilk, but you don't have any on hand. And who does, to be honest?? America is no longer a farm-based economy, and my people aren't/weren't dairy farmers anyway. They're into crops!!
So, here's what to do:
Into your 1-cup-sized measuring cup, pour one tablespoon (Tbsp.) of white vinegar or lemon juice, then fill the rest of the "cup" with milk. Let it sit 5 minutes, and PRESTO!, you've got "buttermilk."
(You can also substitute 1 cup of plain yogurt for 1 cup of buttermilk, which may be easier for some of you.)
Happy baking,
